Tag Rugby Tournament
Match Report by Mr Gillard (Sports Coach)
On Friday 3rd December, Year 5 and 6 joined forces for a primary school tag-rugby tournament organised by QE College in Crediton as part of our sports package.
We fielded three mixed ability teams in the tournament and I would like to say how proud all of the staff
accompanying the children were of the children’s behaviour, attitude and effort. They were a real credit to the school.
After three rounds of groups games which saw many Winkleigh tries, fantastic displays of speed and agility and great organisation on the pitch; we made it to a semi-final and then the final with one of our teams winning the cup!
The thing that impressed me most, was the togetherness shown from Winkleigh. All the children supporting and cheering our team in the final, cheering every tag and pass, it was unbelievable to see!
The standard of tag rugby was excellent and it was fantastic to see the children applying the skills that
we have learnt during PE lessons. The children from Winkleigh have spent 6 weeks of PE lessons focusing on tag-rugby leading up to the tournament and all showed real improvement from the first week to the tournament. Congratulations to them all,
